The Song Was Ruined With Her Choice of Words on The Opening Verse: Aynjewl Faycc - My Promises

Deriving from all the talk folk have about collaboration, My Promises was written when Aynjewl Faycc was stood up on a play date for music with a fellow artist in Maine in 2019. This was around the time when she felt compelled to publish music containing the use of the controversial N-word used in almost every hip-hop song during this era. The idea around it was just being honest.

As a lover of the coined “black” culture, (with those who were close enough to Faycc not to take offense) she was able to let her guard down and freely use the N-word just like everyone of color uses it. She says she stands for being “real” and the fact was that she was using the N-word in her daily life, so she decided to stop being secret about it and be free.

In this particular song, she put in immense efforts to remove the term since it brought no value to the message behind “My Promises”. However, at the time of release, the stems needed to change the word were lost. She tried replacing the whole section of the word, but it made the space stick out unprofessionally. Either way, the song would have a “staple” in it.

Aside from the N-word issue, My Promises is about staying strong for yourself and doing what YOU set out to do regardless of depending on others. The spiritual outlook of Faycc is that labels are just that. Without “judging a book from its cover,” the message behind My Promises is very positive and encouraging.
